The South Korean racer makes a full-time switch to Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series having spent the early part of the year in the Middle East contesting the F4 UAE season. Shin picked up crucial mileage in the new-for-2022 Tatuus T-421 car and demonstrated plenty of promise on his debut foray into single seaters.

Shin will partner Edward Pearson at Virtuosi Racing as the FIA Formula 2 championship contenders expand their operations into the entry-level step on the FIA Single Seater Pathway.

“I’m delighted to be joining Virtuosi Racing for the 2022 ROKiT British F4 season,” said Shin.

“They are such a high level team, and I find it so valuable to be able to learn and develop in that proper environment from early on in my career.

“We have made so much progress in the few days we have done so far and I am excited to keep the improvement going for the rest of the year.”

Shin made a recent outing at the championship’s first official winter test at Brands Hatch on Tuesday (8 March) and will appear again at Snetterton this Friday (11 March).

Virtuosi’s Team Manager Mark Salmon welcomed Shin into the fold and is looking forward to a strong season ahead for the Norfolk-based outfit.

“We are delighted to welcome Michael to Virtuosi Racing,” said Salmon.

“We have started very well in our test programme and I’m looking forward to working with Michael for the rest of the season.”

The addition of Shin means that eleven drivers – among them three Formula 1 juniors – have now confirmed their spot on the 2022 grid, in what is shaping up to be the most competitive season for the championship to-date.

2022 marks a new era in the championship’s history, with new organisers in Motorsport UK and a brand-new chassis in the Tatuus T-421, complete with state-of-the-art safety features such as a Halo-style cockpit protection device, re-inforced side anti-intrusion panels and on-board safety signalling systems.

Drivers and teams will also have a brand new Abarth engine and Pirelli control tyres to get to grips with, meaning the standard of competition on-track is set to be higher than ever before.

The series commences at Donington Park at the end of April and runs through until the finale at Brands Hatch in October, with action broadcast live and free-to-air on ITV4.
