Founded: 2002

Based: Silverstone, Northamptonshire

Team Principal: Oliver Oakes

Based a stone’s throw from the Silverstone circuit, Hitech GP have been fielding cars in the junior categories of motorsport for nearly two decades. Run by former karting champion Oliver Oakes, in recent years the team have undergone a rapid expansion, with British F4 complementing their new Formula 2 operation.

In 2020 the British-based team finished fourth overall in their debut F2 season with both Russian Nikita Mazepin and Italian racer Luca Ghiotto scoring a win apiece.

That good form continued into 2021 as Hitech’s Liam Lawson won the opening round of the season in Bahrain, while his team-mate Jüri Vips was a double winner at the notoriously tough Baku Street Circuit.

With a new F2 team running alongside their long-held Formula 3 operation, the expansion in 2022 of a British F4 Championship outfit, means the Silverstone squad will now operate at each level of the FIA’s single-seater pathway.

Hitech Grand Prix was originally established to compete in British Formula 3 at the beginning of 2003 by founder David Hayle. With Renault young driver Danny Watts leading the team, Hitech scored a memorable debut win at Castle Combe in their first season. They also achieved their first international success when American Richard Antinucci triumphed in the 2003 Korean Super Prix.

After Oliver Oakes finished his own racing career (in which he had driven for Carlin, amongst others) he took over the team that was participating in F3 series in both South America and Asia and in 2015 renamed the outfit Hitech GP.

Under the restructure, Hitech entered FIA European Formula 3 series in 2016 and took George Russell to third overall in the points race, with victories in Pau and Spa-Francorchamps.

In 2019, Hitech GP were runners-up in the FIA Formula 3 championship, as Estonian Yüri Vips took three wins and team-mate Leonardo Pulcini a solitary victory. Their expansion continued in 2020 with assaults on Asian and British F3, as well as their Formula 2 debut - and now they are tackling British F4.

Also based in their 10,000 square foot facility are state-of-the-art operations that have allowed for a separate division to manage other work, focusing on both technological innovations for OEMs and also niche vehicles projects.
