Pirelli to provide funded FRECA test for 2022 British F4 champion

Pirelli will provide the 2022 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA champion with a fully funded test in a Formula Regional car, it has been confirmed.

The renowned Italian marque will extend their support at each step on the FIA’s Single Seater Pathway to Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series, the globally-recognised entry level, in 2022, with the partnership designed to support Motorsport UK’s vision for a championship that both develops drivers and allows for meaningful progression through the ranks.

First, the 2022 champion will receive a funded post-season test with a Formula Regional team courtesy of Pirelli, with the objective of providing them with relevant experience ahead of their graduation to the next level of the sport.

In addition, the driver who completes the most overtakes at each of the ten events in 2022 will be awarded a free set of tyres for testing as part of Pirelli’s Hardest Charger Award, enabling them to make the most of their track time at a crucial stage for development in a driver’s career.

“Pirelli is delighted to kick off our new partnership with the ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA with two key prizes that demonstrate our united approach to building a platform for drivers to enjoy meaningful progression through the single-seater ranks,” said Jonathan Wells, Pirelli’s UK Motorsport Manager.

“With a presence as tyre supplier to every subsequent step on the FIA Single-Seater Pathway, our ability to offer the 2022 British F4 Champion a funded test in a Formula Regional car – the next step on their journey – will give that driver very relevant experience as they graduate from the championship.

“Equally, we want to ensure drivers are able to maximise the opportunities they have at Formula 4 level. British F4 is already a superb platform in terms of track time and the platform for development that Motorsport UK is creating will have real, lasting impact. Our Hardest Charger Award is designed to feed into that philosophy, and the driver who completes the most overtakes on a given weekend will receive an additional set of tyres for testing to ensure they can continue to make the most of the time behind the wheel that is afforded to them.

“Everybody at Pirelli is very excited to be a part of the championship’s new era, and we look ahead to Donington Park next spring when the series gets underway.”
