Karting Champion Josh Irfan Graduates to British F4 with Carlin

After a stellar career in karting, Josh Irfan is stepping up to the ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA, having been confirmed as the third member of Carlin’s multinational line-up for 2023.

With the Hampshire-based outfit defending last season’s coveted Team’s title, the promising young British racer will team up with race winning Kiwi ace Louis Sharp and Indian born racer Dion Gowda.

Irfan graduates to single-seaters after winning multiple titles in kart racing as well as enjoying success in the SuperOne British eSports event – becoming the Cadet Champion.

The teenager, who turns 15 in February, has already integrated himself with the Carlin team having participated in several post-season tests towards the end of last year.

“Being my rookie year in single-seaters, signing with Carlin is best thing I could have ever hoped for,” enthused Irfan. “Carlin has a long history in assisting successful British F4 drivers and I can’t wait to get started working with the team and making the most of this opportunity. It’s definitely going to be challenging this year with a very strong grid of drivers, but I am confident going into the season after securing this drive.”

Team Principal Trevor Carlin is certainly impressed both with Ifran’s impressive track record and his first formative outings in the second-generation Tatuus T-421 Formula 4 chassis.

“We’re excited to have Josh join us for his first season of car racing in British F4,” confirmed Carlin. “He has a strong pedigree in karting and has made a really good start to his winter test programme. Josh is already making great progress in the car and has settled very well into the team. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can achieve when the season officially kicks off in April.”

Ifran’s debut will come when the eagerly-anticipated ROKiT British F4 Championship opens at Donington Park, Leicestershire on 22-23 April.

The 10-event, 30-race season visits all the UK’s premier circuits in the build-up to a finale at Brands Hatch in early October and, for the first time, the calendar includes a triple-header on the full Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone.

With Carlin confirming its third entry, seats on the 2023 F4 British grid are filling up fast – further driver announcements are expected very soon.
