Alex Dunne completes Hitech GP’s roster for Donington Park

Hitech GP have confirmed Alex Dunne will complete their line-up for the opening round of the 2022 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA season at Donington Park this weekend (23-24 April).

The 16-year-old from Ireland arrives in Britain’s FIA Formula 4 series having most recently competed in the F4 UAE series over the winter, claiming two victories and a further brace of podium finishes en route to a top-five finish in the standings overall.

Dunne also competed part-time in both the German and Spanish F4 championships in 2021, with a collective three podiums and consistent, points-scoring form.

The former international kart racer joins Silverstone-based Hitech GP, initially just for the season opener, and will line up alongside new team-mates Eduardo Coseteng, Daniel Mavlyutov and Oliver Stewart.

“I’m really happy to be racing with Hitech in British F4 this weekend after a strong start to the year with the team in F4 UAE,” commented Dunne.

“I look forward to building on that together. Even though the tracks in the UK are new to me, we’ve shown some promising pace in testing!”

Dunne is no stranger to British F4, having entered three of the four official test days during the winter months, and set the fastest times on two of those outings, at Brands Hatch and Snetterton respectively.

For Hitech GP’s Team Manager, Dominic Stott, Dunne’s addition to the ranks marks an exciting opportunity to build on their shared progress with the new-for-2022 Tatuus T-421 during the off-season.

“We are excited to welcome Alex onboard this weekend at Donington in the opening round of British F4,” said Stott.

“He showed strong pace in F4 UAE over the winter months as we got to grips with the new generation car. Hopefully we can pick up where we left off and have a good weekend.”

Dunne becomes the 16th confirmed driver on the grid, joining rising stars from Europe’s leading single-seater teams, such as Argenti, Carlin, Hitech GP, JHR and Virtuosi Racing for the season-opening triple-header in Leicestershire.

It’s all change in the category for 2022, including the introduction of the new Tatuus T-421 second-generation FIA Formula 4 chassis, powered by an Abarth engine and with control tyres by Pirelli.

Donington Park marks the start of another ten-event, 30-race season on 23-24 April, with live coverage available on ITV4.
